Guidelines for Authors

DSC 2017 has a two-phases review process. In the first phase submitted abstracts are evaluated and selected for paper submission or poster presentation. In the second phase submitted papers are reviewed. The Review Process page describes this more precisely.

Abstract submission

To submit an abstract you first need to create an account on-line on our conference management system (www.conftool.com/dsc2017/). The submission form is then available under “Your submissions”.

The abstract (plain text) should not exceed 1000 words in length (excluding title and affiliations). Authors’ contact details (full address and email of all the contributing authors) and affiliations must be entered in the dedicated fields of the submission form. Figures with captions and bibliographic references can be uploaded with the abstract (title and text only) in a single .pdf file. No author information should be included in the .pdf file.

The abstract must properly address the following points:

  • Introduction: background and motivation with references to similar/previous works
  • Research question: description of working hypotheses for non-specialized audience
  • Methodology: description of the experimental setup and procedure
  • Results and discussion: when possible, findings must be supported by proper statistical tests
  • Conclusions/implications: (expected) impact and value of the work for the scientific and/or industrial community.

IMPORTANT: Abstracts not meeting these requirements will not be accepted.

NOTE: There is no required formatting for the Abstract submission

PAPER submission

If your abstract has been accepted for PAPER submission, please follow these step-by-step instructions to upload the paper. Formatting instructions are available on the paper templates below. The deadline to upload the paper is April 21, 2017.

  1. Login to our conference management system (www.conftool.com/dsc2017/) with the account previously created for abstract submission. You will access your personal “Overview” page.
  2. Click on “Your Submissions”. You will access your already submitted contributions.
  3. Click on “Copy as New Contribution”, on the right of the contribution you intend to submit as paper. Contribution info like ID, title, authors list and affiliations will be copied to a new contribution.
  4. Select which type of contribution you submit: “Short Paper” (limited to 4 pages) or “Full Paper” (limited to 8 pages), in accordance with the abstract acceptance result.
  5. Follow the submission steps. Please use the template below to format your paper for upload.

NOTE: The main difference between full and short papers is in the paper length and not in the importance or impact of the contributions. Therefore, the work described in long or short papers differ in extent, but not in quality. Short papers can cover preliminary studies, prototype applications, or initial implementations. Full papers are suitable for completed scientific studies and reviews.

POSTER submission

If your abstract has been accepted for POSTER submission, please follow these step-by-step instructions to upload the poster abstract. Formatting instructions are available on the poster abstract templates below. The deadline to upload the poster abstract is April 30, 2016.

  4. Select the “Poster Abstract” type of contribution (limited to 2 pages).
